Sudden showers drench Delhi, Flights delayed and Traffic crawls!

In the afternoon of October 7, 2025, Delhi saw a sudden and intense bout of rainfall that caught many commuters off guard. Gray skies darkened the horizon, and strong downpours brought streets to puddles, while gusty winds added to the chaos.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast some showers, but the intensity exceeded expectations. Flights at Delhi Airport were impacted: airlines including IndiGo and Air India issued advisories, urging travellers to check for delays.  Local reports describe waterlogging, traffic slowdowns, and general disruption across the city.

This rain follows a series of wet spells across Delhi-NCR, which have already resulted in a notable dip in temperatures and improved air quality.  The rainfall is being linked to active western disturbances interacting with moist air masses over northern India - common for the post-monsoon season.

While such rain could hint at an earlier onset of winter chill, experts caution that seasonal transitions depend on broader weather patterns, not just isolated downpours. For now, residents are advised to stay alert, allow extra travel time, and brace for further spells of rain and cooling through the week.
