Relief from heat as Delhi welcomes pre-monsoon rain!

On June 15, 2025, Delhi finally experienced much-needed relief from the scorching summer heat as heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and thunderstorms lashed various parts of the city early Sunday morning.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), two intense thundersqualls were recorded at Safdarjung between 3:48 and 4:00 AM, with wind speeds peaking at a whopping 104 kmph. Other areas like Pragati Maidan and Palam recorded gusts between 56 to 67 kmph.

Rainfall totals included 33.5 mm at Safdarjung, 32 mm at Lodi Road, and 27.5 mm at Pusa. This sudden weather change brought a significant dip in temperature, offering a much-needed respite from the persistent heatwave.

However, the stormy weather also caused disruption, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic disturbances in the early hours.

IMD issued a severe weather alert, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel due to flying debris and reduced visibility.

The rain marks a hopeful sign of monsoon's arrival in the capital, bringing both relief and caution.
