India’s space story is no longer limited to government missions. A new generation of campus-born startups is stepping in, and Inbound Aerospace is one of the most intriguing names to watch.
Founded in 2025 and incubated at the IIT Madras Incubation Cell, the startup is developing autonomous, reusable re-entry spacecraft designed for in-orbit experiments, microgravity manufacturing, and commercial space research.
The company recently raised over $1 million in pre-seed funding, led by Speciale Invest with participation from Piper Serica, to accelerate research, validate systems, and reach key design milestones.
Why does this matter? Microgravity environments are extremely difficult to recreate on Earth, yet they are critical for breakthroughs in industries like biotech, pharma, and advanced materials. Inbound’s spacecraft aims to safely return payloads after space-based experiments, potentially shortening product development cycles.
The startup is targeting its first re-entry mission around 2028, positioning itself as infrastructure for the emerging space economy, especially as the International Space Station approaches retirement.
Inbound Aerospace signals a powerful trend: innovation is no longer confined to labs. From campus corridors to orbital ambitions, India’s next space leap might already be under construction.
