Heatwave Alert !!! Concerns for Both Street and Pet Dogs!

As temperatures begin to soar and heatwave warnings emerge across several regions, growing concern surrounds the well-being of dogs during the harsh summer months. While humans can escape the scorching heat by staying indoors, using fans, or switching on air conditioners, dogs, especially those living on the streets often have little protection from rising temperatures. Even household pets are not immune to the dangers of extreme heat if proper care is not taken.

Heatwaves can be extremely dangerous for dogs. Roads, pavements, and metal surfaces absorb heat quickly and can become unbearably hot, making it painful for dogs to walk or lie down. Unlike humans, dogs cannot sweat through their skin to cool themselves. Instead, they rely mainly on panting to regulate their body temperature. During intense heatwaves, this natural cooling process may become ineffective, increasing the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and potentially life threatening heatstroke.

Street dogs face an even greater challenge as they often struggle to find shade or clean drinking water. Puddles and small water sources dry up quickly during peak summer months, leaving many animals dehydrated and exhausted. Prolonged exposure to extreme heat can weaken their immunity and make them more vulnerable to illnesses.

However, small actions can make a big difference. Pet owners should ensure their dogs always have access to fresh water, shaded resting areas, and avoid walks during the hottest hours of the day. For street dogs, placing bowls of clean water outside homes, shops, or parks and creating small shaded spaces can provide much-needed relief.

As heatwaves become more frequent and intense, awareness and compassion from communities can play a crucial role in helping both pet and street dogs stay safe during the scorching summer months.

More people need to read this and actually rethink how they treat animals around them during such times.
