Many people believe that using incognito mode makes them invisible online. While it does offer some privacy, the truth is it doesn’t stop websites from tracking you completely.
Incognito mode mainly prevents your browser from saving history, cookies, and form data on your device. However, it does not hide your activity from websites, internet service providers (ISPs), or the network you are using.
Websites can still track you through your IP address, which reveals your general location and internet provider. Even in incognito mode, your IP remains visible, allowing sites to identify and monitor your activity.
Another method is browser fingerprinting. This technique collects information like your device type, screen resolution, browser version, and even installed fonts. Combined, these details create a unique “fingerprint” that can identify you without using cookies.
Additionally, if you log into any account like email or social media websites can directly link your activity to your identity, regardless of incognito mode.
Trackers embedded in websites, such as analytics tools and ads, also continue to collect data about your behavior, including what pages you visit and how long you stay.
The conclusion is incognito mode is useful for local privacy but not for complete anonymity. To truly protect your data, tools like VPNs, privacy-focused browsers, and tracker blockers are more effective.
