A recent poll on Grapevine, a professional career community, reflects the unsettling reality of India’s current tech job landscape. With 4,572 participants, the survey highlights a growing disparity in job switch outcomes.
Only 18% of professionals who switched roles received a hike of over 50%, and 12% saw increases between 20–50%. Meanwhile, 6% reported a marginal 0–20% hike, and a worrying 2% experienced a pay cut.
However, the most telling number is this — 39% of tech professionals say they’re not getting interviews or offers, despite active job hunting. Another 23% aren’t currently seeking a change.
This polarised data points to a skills-driven market. Those who’ve mastered in-demand tools — like DevOps, AI/ML, or cloud computing — are commanding premium packages. One user even shared a leap from ₹7 LPA to ₹22 LPA at Deloitte, driven by specialized certifications and interview prep.
Bottom line? The job market is rewarding a niche set of highly prepared candidates while many others are left navigating silence and uncertainty. The race isn’t just to switch — it’s to skill up, stand out, and strategize smartly.
