How Gen Z is turning Indian handloom into a statement piece!

Gen Z in India is giving handloom fashion a fresh and modern twist. What was once viewed as traditional or old-school is now becoming a bold fashion choice among young people. A major reason behind this shift is Gen Z’s growing interest in sustainability. Handloom fabrics are eco-friendly, slow-made, and crafted by skilled artisans. Choosing them allows young shoppers to support local weavers while wearing something unique. Social media has also played a huge role. Influencers and small brands are showcasing handloom in creative ways, helping these fabrics reach a new, global audience.

However, experts warn that increasing commercial demand may lead to machine-made imitations. Protecting authentic craftsmanship is essential to keep this modern handloom movement meaningful and true to its roots.
