The Indian government has categorically denied reports that TikTok has been unblocked, stressing that the app continues to remain banned nationwide. Officials stated that no order has been issued to lift restrictions, dismissing such claims as “false and misleading”.
Rumours gained traction after some users claimed they could access TikTok’s homepage without a VPN. However, government sources clarified that this limited access is likely a technical glitch and does not mean the app has returned.
TikTok, along with 58 other Chinese apps, was banned in June 2020 under Section 69A of the IT Act. The move came after the Galwan Valley clashes, citing concerns of national security, sovereignty, and user data privacy.
Officials reiterated that the ban remains firmly in place and that any reports suggesting TikTok’s comeback are without basis.
