In a decisive move to combat escalating air pollution, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that, effective November 1, 2025, only BS-5 compliant, CNG, or electric commercial vehicles will be permitted entry into the capital. This initiative is a central component of the Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025, aiming to significantly reduce vehicular emissions in the city.
To enforce this regulation, the Delhi government plans to install Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at all city entry points. These cameras will identify non-compliant and End-of-Life (EoL) vehicles, triggering real-time alerts and public warnings to prevent their entry.
Complementing the vehicle restrictions, the government will deploy 2,299 electric autorickshaws at major Delhi Metro stations and establish 18,000 public and semi-public EV charging stations across malls, transit hubs, and commercial zones. Additionally, a revised EV policy mandates that 80% of government fleets transition to clean fuel, with only electric vehicles allowed in sensitive ecological zones.
