Delhi HC issues notices to Student leaders, flags violations in DUSU Polls!

The Delhi High Court has taken a stern view of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, decrying the rampant display of luxury cars, big vehicles and even JCBs in campaign rallies. Bench comprising Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela expressed that despite earlier warnings and a judicial order last year, students have not learned their lesson.

Notices were issued to several student leaders, including newly elected President Aryan Mann, for flouting rules on defacement, misuse of vehicles, and breach of Lyngdoh Committee guidelines. The court observed that while defacement of public property has somewhat declined, the misuse of resources and disregard for court orders remain worrying.

“Over the years, the shape these elections have taken has been a cause of concern for every responsible institution and citizen,” the court said, expressing that none of the candidates admitted wrongdoing and urging a course-correction. The matter will next be heard in November.
