Delhi’s State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has unveiled a new initiative, the AI-Mediated Classroom Project, to provide hands-on training for school teachers to integrate artificial intelligence into their pedagogy.
In Phase 1, 100 computer science teachers across 50 government schools will participate in intensive two-day capacity-building workshops. These teachers will then act as “Resource Persons” in their schools, helping disseminate AI practices. In Phase 2, subject teachers in mathematics, science, English, Hindi and social science (Classes 6 & 9) will be trained. Each school will nominate three teachers per subject (15 in total) for the programme.
The aim is to personalize learning, develop innovative assessment tools, and boost classroom engagement through AI tools. SCERT has already identified 50 government schools in Delhi for this pilot rollout.
While integration of AI tools for non-teaching tasks was already underway in Delhi earlier - such as automating presentations and editorial tasks—this new project is more ambitious, focusing on classroom instruction itself. The success of this endeavour will depend on sustained support, infrastructure readiness, and adoption by teachers.
