A 30‑year‑old assistant engineer from Assam’s Public Works Department (PWD), posted in Bongaigaon, tragically died by suicide at her rented residence on July 22, 2025. In her suicide note, she explicitly named SDO Aminul Islam and Executive Engineer Dinesh Medhi, accusing them of pressuring her to approve and clear fraudulent bills, including inflated contracts, while lacking proper guidance or support at work. 

The note cited “extreme stress” and stated she was overseeing work on a mini‑stadium project without adequate experience or direction, despite repeated requests. Her father added that she believed she would face jail while her superiors would merely be transferred. He alleged the officials demanded bills reflecting double the actual cost of work done. 

Confirming the seriousness of the case, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that both officials have been arrested and a detailed investigation is underway. He stressed that the allegations must be thoroughly probed before arriving at conclusions.
