Arizona teen dies attempting viral ‘dusting’ challenge

A 19 year old Arizona teen Renna ORourke died on June 1 2025 after attempting the dusting challenge a dangerous social media trend also known as chroming or huffing. The trend involves inhaling keyboard cleaning spray for a brief euphoric high often to gain online views. Renna suffered cardiac arrest after inhaling the spray and was rushed to the hospital where she remained unconscious for a week before being declared brain dead due to sudden sniffing death syndrome AZ Family reported. Her parents Aaron and Dana ORourke are now raising awareness about the trend’s dangers. Dana noted the sprays accessibility saying no ID is required and it doesnt show in drug tests.
Dr Randy Weisman head of the ICU at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center called the trend extremely concerning. Inhaling these chemicals replaces oxygen in the lungs leading to liver failure heart failure or lung disease. Rennas parents urge vigilance to prevent further tragedies.
