India is witnessing a steady rise in women-led businesses, and the government is actively supporting this shift through dedicated schemes like Mahila E-Haat, Stree Shakti Yojana, and Stand Up India. Each of these programs targets a different barrier faced by women-whether it’s lack of market access, difficulty in getting loans, or challenges in launching a business.
Mahila E-Haat is an online marketplace run by the Ministry of Women & Child Development where women entrepreneurs and Self-Help Groups can list and sell their products directly-no middlemen, no complex paperwork. Registration needs only a mobile number, making it accessible even for rural women. The platform earlier helped thousands of women gain visibility and is now under review for relaunch.
Stree Shakti Yojana offers low-interest business loans to women who own at least 50% of their enterprise. Benefits include 0.5% interest concession, no processing fee up to ₹5 lakh, and no collateral for loans up to ₹10 lakh, helping women start or expand small businesses in sectors like retail, services, and manufacturing.
Stand Up India supports women and SC/ST entrepreneurs by offering ₹10 lakh–₹1 crore loans for new ventures, with a repayment period of up to 7 years. The 2025 budget aims to expand this benefit to 5 lakh first-time women entrepreneurs, with loan limits rising to ₹2 crore.
Together, these schemes are creating a stronger ecosystem for women to become job creators instead of job seekers, driving economic and social progress across India.
