For thousands of years, trade routes shaped civilizations by moving silk, spices, amber, and salt across continents. Surprisingly, many of these age-old paths are still alive—transformed into modern highways, shipping lanes, and tourist trails.
The Silk Road, once connecting China to Europe, now inspires modern highways and China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative. The Spice Route, which carried pepper and cinnamon, survives through the Indian Ocean lanes and the Suez Canal, still vital for global trade. Arabia’s Incense Route—famed for frankincense—today overlaps with Saudi highways and the tourist magnet Petra.
Closer home, South Asia’s Grand Trunk Road continues as a crucial highway and railway corridor, while India’s Kalinga Coast Route and Dakshinapatha live on through ports and highways. Even lesser-known paths like the Amber Road and Tea Horse Road have evolved into cultural highways and trekking trails.
These routes are not just relics of the past but working lifelines—proof that history doesn’t vanish, it evolves. They continue to connect goods, people, and cultures across the world, blending legacy with modern life.
