Nestled in the serene hills of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, Mirba Village is a living museum of ancient Monpa architecture. Built over a thousand years ago with stone, wood, and mud, these homes have withstood centuries of weather and earthquakes, needing minimal repairs.
The village’s name, ‘Mirba’, means “human face,” inspired by a nearby mountain resembling a human visage—a symbol of nature intertwined with humanity. Walking through Mirba is like stepping back in time, with single-, double-, and triple-storeyed houses reflecting resilient, sustainable design.
In 2025, Mirba was officially declared a Heritage Village, recognizing its cultural, historical, and architectural significance. Guided surveys by architects and officials confirmed that the village is a treasure of living heritage.
This recognition ensures Mirba’s traditions, craftsmanship, and community lifestyle are preserved for future generations. It also opens doors for rural tourism, letting visitors witness a thousand-year-old legacy of simplicity, sustainability, and harmony with nature.
Local residents feel immense pride, celebrating their forefathers’ wisdom and the village’s timeless charm.
