A 25-year-old woman recently turned down a job offer-not for salary reasons, but because it required her to occasionally work on Saturdays. The response surprised Talent Acquisition Specialist Riya Dadhich.
At first, Riya felt mildly irritated. But when the candidate calmly said, “I want to give my best, but not at the cost of burning out by 30,” her irritation turned into deep respect.
This wasn't just a no. It was a powerful, thoughtful refusal that shattered stereotypes about Gen Z being entitled or uncommitted. It was a stand for balance, wellness, and clarity.
Riya later shared the encounter on LinkedIn, where her post quickly went viral. In it, she reflected on how her generation was taught to endure. They smiled through exhaustion, wore burnout like a badge, and rarely said no.
But Gen Z is changing the game. They're vocal about mental health, conscious of toxic work patterns, and brave enough to prioritize well-being over outdated notions of hustle.
Riya admitted something many feel but rarely say: “Maybe Gen Z isn't the problem. Maybe they're the correction.”
Her post resonated across LinkedIn, reigniting discussions on boundaries, burnout, and the need to rethink work culture-especially in India's fast-paced corporate world.
