Planning a Trip to Kashmir? Discover the Easiest Way Yet

The dream of rail connectivity to Kashmir is finally becoming a reality, as the Vande Bharat Express successfully completed its trial run between Katra and Srinagar. This advanced train, equipped to handle Jammu and Kashmir’s harsh winters, represents a significant achievement in bridging the region with the national railway network.

Arriving at Srinagar's Nowgam station amidst cheers and celebrations, the train continued to Budgam, completing the trial phase. This train, equipped with state-of-the-art climate-resilient technology, includes heating systems that prevent freezing of water tanks and defrost windshields, ensuring smooth operations even in sub-zero temperatures. It also boasts modern passenger amenities like air-conditioned coaches and mobile charging points.

The Vande Bharat Express is expected to be officially flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following the Railway Board’s clearance for its operation on the Katra-Baramulla route. The date for the ceremony remains unannounced.

The trial runs highlighted engineering marvels along the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. These include the iconic Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge towering 359 meters above the riverbed, and the Anji Khad Bridge, featuring a single pylon that rises 331 meters above the river.

This project not only enhances Kashmir’s connectivity but also showcases India’s engineering excellence and commitment to integrating remote regions into the national mainstream. By overcoming extreme geographical challenges, the Vande Bharat Express paves the way for economic growth and accessibility in the valley.
