How a Dutch company enables Taiwans semiconductor dominance

The world’s most advanced technology, from smartphones to fighter jets, relies on microchips—and a Dutch company, ASML, is crucial to their production. ASML’s highly specialized lithography machines enable Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to produce the world’s smallest and most advanced chips, powering everything from consumer electronics to defense systems.

TSMC dominates the semiconductor industry, manufacturing over 90% of the most sophisticated chips. These chips are made possible by ASML’s $150 million machines, which offer unmatched precision. By using these machines, TSMC can create chips with billions of transistors, meeting the growing demand for efficiency and performance in industries like automotive, healthcare, and technology.

ASML’s exclusive technology has positioned it as the backbone of the global semiconductor industry. Its machines are used by leading companies such as TSMC, Samsung, and Intel to produce chips critical to modern life. Without ASML, the manufacturing of advanced chips would face significant challenges, slowing innovation in devices and systems worldwide.

This partnership between ASML and TSMC exemplifies the importance of collaboration in pushing technological boundaries. As the demand for smarter, faster devices continues to grow, ASML’s role in the semiconductor supply chain remains essential, ensuring the continued evolution of technology that defines the modern world.
