As India’s festive season approaches, e-commerce platforms are initiating an aggressive hiring wave—marking one of the most expansive gig recruitment drives in recent memory. Companies like Amazon and Flipkart are each adding around 150,000 seasonal workers to manage supply chains, delivery, and customer support. A broader industry push is creating up to 500,000 jobs, with over half a million gig workers engaged across e-commerce and logistics, many from Tier II and III towns.
Meesho, a major marketplace player, is facilitating a staggering 850,000 seasonal positions 70% more than last year through partnerships with third-party logistics providers, particularly in smaller towns. Overall, temporary and gig hiring across e-commerce, retail, and logistics has surged 20–25% year-on-year, lifting staffing numbers significantly.
This hiring momentum underscores how critical gig labor is to meeting festive demand, while also fostering economic inclusion. With e-commerce expanding into new markets, these seasonal roles are helping bridge the divides between metros and emerging regions powering both consumer access and rural employment.
