India’s semiconductor ambitions are gaining traction, and chemical manufacturers are emerging as vital players in enabling a self-reliant chip ecosystem. With substantial progress cited in a Bastion Research–based report, Indian firms are stepping up to produce ultra-high-purity chemicals key to processes like wafer etching and cleaning.
- Tata Chemicals is scaling its output of semiconductor-grade chemicals tailored for fab cleaning and etching operations, marking a strategic pivot toward high-tech supply chains.
- Deepak Nitrite, known for specialty chemicals, now supplies ultra-pure etching and cleaning solutions critical to wafer fabrication underscoring rising domestic capability.
- These developments dovetail neatly with India’s roll-out of semiconductor infrastructure, including fabrication and OSAT (outsourced semiconductor assembly and test) facilities, by strengthening local inputs and diminishing dependence on imports from Japan and the United States.
This homegrown momentum in ultra-purity chemical production fills a longstanding gap in the semiconductor value chain an area historically reliant on global sources. As India scales up fabs and packaging units, the emergence of a robust chemical supply base not only supports sovereignty in chip manufacturing but also builds resilience and depth in the broader semiconductor ecosystem.
