Assam startup Woolah Tea has made history by securing a 20-year patent (No. 567895) for its pioneering “Compressed True Whole Leaf Tea Dips and Method Thereof”, marking a breakthrough in eco-friendly tea brewing. Unlike conventional tea bags laden with microplastics, Woolah’s creation uses pure whole tea leaves no dust, fannings, or synthetic fibers compressed and tied with natural string, delivering a clean, flavorful steep and supporting reuse through multiple infusions.
The journey from ideation to invention began in 2020, with intensive research involving 167 trial runs using natural materials like banana and bamboo fibers, before achieving the perfect design. The Chief Minister’s Office of Assam hailed the achievement, while Woolah Tea represented Assam’s innovation legacy at the Summer Fancy Food Festival 2025 in New York.
Beyond its patent, the startup’s visibility soared after appearing on Shark Tank India Season 4, receiving offers from all four Sharks and amplifying demand through a wave of recognition. With plans to export to the US, UK, UAE, Australia, and New Zealand, Woolah Tea blends Assam’s tea heritage with sustainable innovation and sets the stage to redefine how the world sips tea.
