The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 resumes on May 17 after a break caused by India-Pakistan tensions, with 17 matches remaining, including the playoffs.
Delhi Capitals are currently fifth on the points table with 13 points from 11 matches. After the suspension, many overseas players returned home, uncertain about the tournament's resumption.
Among them was Delhi's young batter Jack Fraser McGurk, who opted out of the rest of the season. In his absence, Delhi signed Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman as a temporary replacement under BCCI's rule allowing such signings, though replacements cannot be retained next season.
The move drew criticism online, not due to the player's role but his nationality. Some fans called for a boycott of the franchise, citing political and religious tensions with Bangladesh.
Critics expressed anger over picking a player from a country they claim harbors anti-India sentiment. Meanwhile, Mustafizur is with the Bangladesh team in the UAE for an ODI series.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board stated that no NOC request was made by either the IPL or the player to confirm his participation.
