On Wednesday evening, a major technical glitch disrupted Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services, leaving users across India unable to complete digital transactions. The outage affected popular apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm, frustrating customers who rely on cashless payments for daily purchases.

What Caused the UPI Outage?

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates UPI, admitted to facing intermittent technical issues. While they did not disclose specific details, these issues partially disrupted transactions, leading to payment failures and connectivity problems.

Reports from Downdetector indicate that the problem began in the late afternoon, with user complaints spiking around 7 PM. Over 3,000 users reported issues, mainly involving failed payments.

Though the outage was brief, it caused widespread frustration, with users venting on social media. Some joked about being stuck at shops due to failed payments, while others were shocked at experiencing a nationwide UPI failure for the first time.

Later, NPCI confirmed that the problem had been fixed and services were fully restored. They apologized for the inconvenience, assuring users that UPI is now stable again.
