'Spend to Succeed?' Bengaluru Man's Controversial Life Advice for People In their 20s Goes Viral

A Bengaluru-based professional, Shobhit Shrivastava, has set social media abuzz with his unconventional advice for young adults. Known for his insights on personal growth, Shrivastava recently shared a post on X urging people in their early 20s to prioritise self-investment and productivity, even if it means spending a little extra.

In his post, he encouraged investing in tools and services that enhance productivity, such as a MacBook, noise-cancelling headphones, gym memberships, and hiring a maid to handle household chores. His central message: focusing on personal growth during your early career can yield significant long-term rewards.

“Don’t hesitate to spend on things that improve your productivity. Buy that MacBook, gym membership, hire help for household chores, and get all the books you want. Break free from the money-pinching habits you inherited. Your early 20s are the time to invest in yourself and maximise your earning potential. No other investment will give you higher returns,” he wrote. He added a caveat that these investments should not lead to debt and advised changing jobs if they do.

While some applauded his advice as empowering and pragmatic, others dismissed it as impractical for those juggling financial constraints and responsibilities.

One user commented, "Great advice if you’re earning at least 80-85k, anything less and it’s unrealistic." Another noted, "This only works if you have no other financial burdens."

The post has gone viral, sparking lively discussions on finding the balance between ambition, self-care, and managing diverse paths to personal and professional success in one’s 20s.
