On the eve of its theatrical release, Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's Bhool Chuk Maaf faces an unexpected legal roadblock. Following heightened tensions from the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, producers Maddock Films opted for a direct OTT release. However, PVR Inox has sued Maddock for ₹60 crore, claiming breach of contract and attributing the OTT shift to poor advance bookings rather than national security concerns.
The Bombay High Court has restrained the film's OTT release, enforcing an 8-week holdback clause linked to theatrical distribution agreements. PVR Inox argued that the sudden cancellation harms both its financial interests and customer trust, having already promoted the film extensively. Maddock Films countered that the clause applies only if the film had hit cinemas.
The dispute, which underscores evolving film release norms amid geopolitical tensions, is set for further hearing on June 16. Until then, the fate of Bhool Chuk Maaf remains in limbo.
