OpenAI has announced ChatGPT Atlas, its first browser built around conversational AI. According to the company, the browser brings together three core features: Chat, Memory and Agent, enabling users to interact naturally with web content, retain context across sessions, and delegate tasks like booking flights or shopping.
In practical terms, Atlas displays an “Ask ChatGPT” button on pages so you can ask questions like “Summarise this article” or “Find cheaper flight options” without leaving the tab. IMemory lets you opt-in so the browser learns from past interactions—while incognito mode ensures privacy when you don't want that
Agent mode is the most ambitious: it allows the AI to act on your behalf, automating multi-step workflows. At launch, Agent mode is limited to paying ChatGPT Plus/Pro customers. Atlas is first available on Mac, with Windows, iOS and Android versions expected in the coming months. By entering the browser space, OpenAI is challenging established players like Google Chrome and rival startup Comet from Perplexity AI, signaling a push toward an “AI-first” web experience.
