On September 9, 2025, Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan, representing the NDA, was elected India’s 15th Vice President, securing 452 first-preference votes out of 767 cast and surpassing the majority threshold of 391 while B. Sudershan Reddy of the INDIA bloc received 300 votes, marking a clear 152-vote victory margin. Despite 98.2% turnout, 15 ballots were invalidated. Analysts noted cross-voting within the opposition ranks, as the NDA reportedly received more votes than its confirmed strength. This victory reinforces the ruling alliance’s influence in high constitutional offices.
Radhakrishnan steps into the role previously held by Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned in July due to health concerns, and will also serve as the Chair of the Rajya Sabha and acting President when required. His election, achieved amid an orderly process and strong mandate, cements the NDA's commanding parliamentary position.
