A silent shift is reshaping what “success” looks like for young Indians. The age-old dream of roti, kapda aur makaan-a stable job, permanent home, and predictable life-is slowly losing relevance.
Instead, a growing number of youngsters are choosing freedom over stability. Inspired by the van life movement, they’re turning vans into compact homes and setting out on open roads-living a life that feels more real than routine.
This change isn’t random. Rising rent, expensive city life, and burnout from the 9-to-5 culture are pushing people to question everything they were taught to chase. Add remote work to the mix, and suddenly, being tied to one location doesn’t make sense anymore.
Van life offers something different-minimalism, flexibility, and the thrill of uncertainty. No long-term EMIs, no fixed schedules-just new places, new experiences, and a sense of control over one’s own life.
Of course, it’s not all aesthetic sunsets. Space is limited, comfort is basic, and unpredictability is constant. But for many, that’s exactly the point.
Because today, success isn’t just about owning things-it’s about living freely.
