As health awareness grows, food brands are finding new ways to attract consumers looking for healthier options. One of the most popular strategies is highlighting claims such as “No Added Sugar,” “Naturally Sweetened,” and “Made with Real Ingredients” on product packaging.
These labels instantly create a healthier image in the minds of shoppers. Many consumers assume that products carrying such claims contain little or no sugar. However, the reality can be more complicated. Ingredients like dates, honey, jaggery, fruit pulp, and fruit concentrates are often used to provide sweetness while allowing brands to avoid traditional sugar-related labels.
This has led to what experts call a “health halo effect,” where consumers perceive a product as healthier simply because of the claims displayed on the front of the pack. As a result, people may overlook nutritional information and ingredient lists while making purchasing decisions.
For brands, these labels have become powerful tools to connect with health-conscious audiences. For consumers, however, the key lies in looking beyond marketing messages and understanding what goes into the products they buy.
As demand for healthier foods continues to rise, transparency is becoming increasingly important. The future of food marketing may depend not just on attractive claims, but on helping consumers make truly informed choices about what they eat.
