In a move to transform the daily commute into a collective environmental mission, Rajiv Arora founded GreenCar to address the severe air pollution and traffic congestion plaguing Indian metros like Delhi. Arora, who also serves as the Director of Elite Corporate Solutions, was inspired to act when he realized that pollution was no longer an abstract problem but a "hugely personal" crisis affecting health and quality of life. GreenCar operates as a social-impact "concept name," designed specifically to lower CO₂ emissions through a streamlined, trust-based carpooling service.
A key challenge Arora identified was "social hesitation"—the awkwardness of asking a stranger or colleague for a ride. To solve this, the GreenCar app acts as a neutral bridge, allowing "seekers," "poolers," and those who alternate driving days to connect seamlessly for both short office commutes and long-distance trips. Unlike commercial ride-sharing apps, GreenCar’s not-for-profit structure focuses purely on community benefit and sustainability. By 2026, Arora aims to scale the platform to a national level, with the ambitious goal of eliminating 80,000 vehicles from the road and significantly curbing the country's carbon footprint and fuel dependency. This Startup Pedia feature underscores how professional expertise in talent management and leadership can be pivoted to solve one of India’s most pressing urban challenges.
