Sohalpreet Singh Sidhu — an 18-year-old from Sehna village, Barnala, Punjab — is rewriting the script on youth aspirations by building a thriving modern dairy business rooted in buffalo farming. Instead of pursuing overseas education, he invested ₹1.20 lakh at age 15 to buy his first buffalo, sparking a journey that now earns him around ₹5–6 lakh each month from milk sales and herd growth.
Today, his enterprise comprises about 55 buffaloes, 15 cows and nearly 50 young cattle, including high-yield breeds like Murrah and Holstein Friesian, producing 650–700 litres of milk daily. With buffalo milk fetching ₹65–70 per kg and cow milk ₹38–42, Sohalpreet’s monthly turnover touches nearly ₹10 lakh, with about 60 per cent profit after costs.
Rather than resting on instinct alone, he reinvests nearly all profits to scale up steadily — aiming for a herd of 500–550 buffaloes — and plans to pursue formal veterinary studies to strengthen his technical knowledge.
The farm spans around 43 acres (owned and leased), with dedicated fodder cultivation and scientific planning for animal comfort, feed, medical care and continuous production. Sohalpreet manages daily milking routines, hires local labour, and believes practical experience plus formal education will drive success.
His story reflects a larger trend of youth embracing rural enterprise with ambition and innovation, showing that traditional agribusiness — managed smartly — can rival modern career paths.
