The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all states and Union Territories (UTs) in India to conduct mock drills on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, to address new and complex threats amid heightened tensions with Pakistan, especially following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
The drills will focus on critical preparedness, including the operationalisation of air raid warning sirens and training civilians, particularly students, in essential civil defence techniques.
These exercises aim to equip citizens with the skills to protect themselves in case of aerial strikes or other hostile incidents. Additionally, crash blackout measures will be implemented to simulate power outages, reducing visibility during potential air raids.
A total of 259 districts across 35 states and UTs will participate in this nationwide mock drill, aimed at improving national security preparedness. The drill will strengthen the country's ability to respond effectively to emergencies and enhance civilian readiness for such crises.
