The World Bank has approved USD 700 million in financing to help Pakistan shore up its macroeconomic stability and improve public service delivery as part of a larger, multi-year initiative known as the Public Resources for Inclusive Development – Multiphase Programmatic Approach (PRID-MPA). This programme, which may provide up to USD 1.35 billion in total support, aims to back fiscal reforms, strengthen institutions and ensure resources are used efficiently to benefit citizens across the country.
Under the approved funding, USD 600 million is set for federal programmes, while USD 100 million will support provincial initiatives in Sindh — reflecting a coordinated effort to improve budget planning, increase domestic revenues, bolster evidence-based policy making and enhance transparency. The financing follows a smaller World Bank grant earlier in the year to improve primary education in Punjab, showing continued engagement across sectors.
World Bank officials have emphasised that restoring macroeconomic stability and expanding fiscal space are essential to sustainable, inclusive growth. Strengthened revenue administration, improved budget execution, better statistical systems and fairer financing for healthcare and education are among the priorities outlined for the programme. The overarching goal is to ensure that reforms translate into tangible improvements in services and trust in public institutions.
This approval comes amid ongoing efforts by Pakistan to stabilise its economy and implement structural reforms under the guidance of international partners, aiming to build resilience against fiscal pressures while safeguarding priority social and climate investments
