The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the postponement of the UGC NET December 2024 examination that was initially scheduled for January 15, 2025. The decision to reschedule the exam was made after receiving multiple requests from candidates due to the clash with significant regional festivals, including Pongal, Makar Sankranti, and other local celebrations, which fall on the same day. 

The NTA took this step to accommodate the concerns of candidates who might face difficulties attending the exam due to these important cultural and religious events. As per the official notice issued by the NTA, only the exam scheduled for January 15 has been postponed, while the exams scheduled for January 16, 2025, and beyond will proceed as planned. The new date for the January 15 examination will be announced at a later time.

Candidates who were supposed to appear for the exam on January 15 are advised to keep checking the official UGC NET website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in, for updates regarding the rescheduled exam date. The NTA has ensured that all necessary arrangements will be made to allow aspirants sufficient time to prepare and appear for the examination once the new date is confirmed.

The UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is a critical examination for candidates aspiring to qualify for assistant professor positions and to secure Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in universities and colleges across India. Given its significance, the NTA has taken this decision in the best interest of the aspirants, ensuring that they are not deprived of an opportunity to attend the exam due to overlapping festival dates.
