Tourists Resume Travel to Pahalgam: Is the Region Safely Rebounding?

Less than a week after the tragic terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the picturesque hill station is witnessing a gradual return of tourists. Despite the recent violence, many visitors are resuming their travel plans, drawn by the region's natural beauty and the absence of official travel restrictions.

On Saturday, tourists were observed taking photographs and selfies at Pahalgam's popular "selfie point" along the Lidder River. Local businesses, eager to revive the tourism-dependent economy, are offering special discounts and promotions, including complimentary meals with every order. While Baisaran meadow remains closed for safety reasons, other attractions in the area are accessible, signaling a cautious return to normalcy.

Visitors like Joydeep Ghosh Dastidar from Kolkata expressed confidence in the safety of the destination, noting the supportive presence of locals and security personnel. Similarly, Mrityunjay Pande, a teacher from Bihar, shared that despite initial cancellations, they decided to proceed with their trip after learning there were no restrictions on tourists.
