Stop buying Holi colours… make these in your kitchen instead!

Holi is all about colours, laughter, and memories. But the bright powders sold in markets often contain synthetic dyes and chemicals that can irritate skin, damage hair, and even harm the environment.
This year, why not make your own natural gulal at home?
For a vibrant pink, take a fresh beetroot. Peel and chop it, grind it into a smooth paste, then mix it with cornflour. Spread the mixture on a plate and let it dry in the sun for a day. Once dry, crush it gently into a soft powder.
Want green? Replace beetroot with spinach. For a bright yellow, use turmeric. The process stays the same.
These kitchen-made colours are gentle on your skin and safe for kids. Plus, they wash off easily without leaving stubborn stains.
A few simple ingredients, a little sunlight, and you’re ready to celebrate a safer, more sustainable Holi — without compromising on fun.
