The Bihar Police have filed a case against Prashant Kishor, chief of the Jan Suraaj Party, and 19 others for allegedly instigating ongoing protests by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants at Patna's Gandhi Maidan. The protests, sparked by allegations of question paper leaks and exam irregularities during the 70th BPSC preliminary examination, have persisted since mid-December. Aspirants are demanding a re-examination and a meeting with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Police allege Kishor and his party defied district administration orders by organizing a gathering near the Gandhi statue on Sunday, worsening the law-and-order situation. Along with Kishor, coaching operators and party members are also accused. Over 600 unnamed individuals have been implicated.
Kishor, speaking to protesters, criticized Nitish Kumar for ignoring youth concerns, claiming, "No exam in Bihar happens without corruption or paper leaks." He vowed continued support for the students.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, however, accused Kishor of hijacking the protest, labeling him as part of a “government B team” and criticized the Bihar government for mishandling the unrest. Yadav urged students to stand firm in their demands for exam cancellation, promising RJD’s political backing.
As tensions escalate, the protests highlight deep dissatisfaction among Bihar’s youth over systemic corruption in the education sector, with students vowing to continue until their grievances are addressed. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
