Whether it's pulling an all-nighter before exams, powering through a workout, or staying productive during a busy day, energy drinks have become a go-to solution for many young people.
But doctors say this growing habit may come at a cost.
Most energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine, sugar, and other stimulants designed to increase alertness and reduce fatigue. While they can provide a temporary burst of energy, frequent consumption may place unnecessary stress on the body.
Health experts warn that excessive intake can contribute to sleep problems, anxiety, headaches, increased heart rate, and high blood pressure. Over time, these effects may impact both physical and mental well-being.
Another major concern is that many people underestimate how much caffeine these beverages contain. Consuming multiple cans in a short period can significantly increase caffeine intake, leading to unwanted side effects.
Doctors are also highlighting emerging concerns about the impact of excessive energy drink consumption on liver health, particularly among young adults who consume them regularly.
The problem is often made worse when energy drinks replace healthier habits such as proper sleep, balanced meals, hydration, and regular exercise. While the drinks may offer a short-term solution, they do not address the underlying causes of fatigue.
Experts recommend using energy drinks in moderation and focusing on sustainable lifestyle habits for long-lasting energy.
As energy drinks continue to gain popularity, health professionals are urging young people to be more aware of what they're consuming and the potential effects it may have on their health.
