Make this Eid extra special—follow these 7 SUNNAHS to feel the blessings!

Eid is a special occasion for Muslims worldwide, marking the end of Ramadan with celebrations, prayers, and acts of worship. Following the Sunnahs of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on this auspicious day brings blessings and enhances the spiritual experience. Here are the seven Sunnahs to observe on the night and day of Eid.

1. RECITING TAKBIR

The first Sunnah begins at Maghrib on the night before Eid. Muslims start reciting the Takbir, proclaiming Allah’s greatness:
"Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La Ilaha Illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahi Alhamd."
This should be repeated continuously from Maghrib until the Eid prayer the next morning.

2.  EATING AN ODD NUMBER OF DATES

On the morning of Eid, it is a Sunnah to eat an odd number of dates before heading for prayer, symbolizing the breaking of the fast and expressing gratitude.

3. TAKING A RITUAL BATH (GHUSL)

Performing Ghusl before the Eid prayer is an important Sunnah. It reflects cleanliness and a fresh start, preparing oneself for the joyous occasion.

4. DRESSING NEATLY AND WEARING FRAGNANCE

Wearing clean, beautiful clothes is a Sunnah on Eid. Men are encouraged to wear perfume, while women should dress modestly yet neatly for the prayer.

5. ATTENDING EID PRAYER

Eid prayer is a major Sunnah, and everyone, including men, women, and children, is encouraged to attend. The prayer consists of two rak’ahs with seven Takbirs in the first rak’ah and five in the second. Listening to the Khutbah afterward is also recommended.

6. GREETINGS OTHER WITH "Taqabbala Allah minna wa minkum"

After the prayer, greet fellow worshippers with, "Taqabbala Allah minna wa minkum" (May Allah accept from us and from you). Responding with "Ameen" is customary.

7. TAKING A DIFFERENT ROUTE BACK HOME

The Prophet (peace be upon him) would take a different route back home after the Eid prayer. This Sunnah signifies spreading the joy of Eid through different paths and greeting different people.
