ADHD didn’t suddenly become common overnight - what changed is how visible it became. Social media, especially short-form content, simplified ADHD into relatable habits like procrastination, distraction, or “overthinking.” Since almost everyone experiences these sometimes, people quickly say, “same.” But the reality is very different.
ADHD isn’t just occasional distraction - it’s a constant struggle that affects focus, memory, daily routines, work, and relationships. The key difference is intensity and consistency. For someone with ADHD, even simple tasks can feel overwhelming or impossible to start, not just “boring.”
At the same time, awareness has genuinely increased. Many people - especially adults and women — were never diagnosed earlier, so now they’re finally recognizing symptoms and seeking help. This creates the feeling that “everyone has ADHD.”
But there’s also a flip side: some people casually label normal behavior as ADHD without understanding it fully, which makes the condition look trivial.
