Instagram is lowkey testing a new feature: locked Reels that you can only unlock by entering a secret code based on a hint. 👀

Spotted on the app's own @design account, the test reel prompted viewers to enter a code with the clue "1st # in the caption." The answer? "threads", a nod to Meta's Threads app. Once unlocked, the reel showed a banner saying "coming soon."

So what's the deal? This could let creators or celebrities drop exclusive content for die-hard fans who know them well—think hints like "my birthday" or "my dog's name." It's a fun way to boost engagement, and maybe even tease product drops or hidden promos.

For regular users, it could be a cute way to share stuff just for close friends. 

But not everyone's gonna love decoding reels, especially with Instagram already feeling overloaded with features.

No word yet from Instagram on an official launch. Like many test features, it may or may not go wide. But one thing's for sure, it's giving private story energy, Reels edition.
