Delhi is on edge today as an air raid siren test is set to ring through the capital's heart at ITO around 3 PM, lasting 15-20 minutes. But this isn't your average drill.
This siren testing comes on the heels of a heightened security alert, sparked by escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people-mostly tourists.
Authorities have asked citizens not to panic, assuring that this is a routine preparedness drill. Yet, the atmosphere feels anything but routine.
In central Delhi, India Gate was cleared, and traffic was controlled as police made repeated announcements urging people to vacate. Elsewhere, review meetings are being held non-stop between disaster management, health, and law enforcement teams.
Extra police and paramilitary forces now guard metro stations, malls, markets, and even residential neighborhoods. Entry points to the city have tightened up, with intense vehicle checks in place.
At Mayur Vihar Metro Station, police and CISF conducted detailed inspections. With 41 CCTV cameras and security teams deployed around the clock, the focus is on being battle-ready.
Bomb squads are actively sweeping crowded zones-malls, hotels, public hubs-to eliminate any threat.
This is Delhi on alert. And today's siren? It's more than just a sound-it's a signal to stay vigilant.
