You scroll job portals, apply to dozens of roles, but never hear back. Turns out, not every job posting is real. A growing trend called ghost hiring is quietly spreading across industries, where companies post vacancies without actually intending to hire.
These fake listings are often used to build a database of resumes, create an illusion of company growth, or test the talent market. For job seekers, it creates false hope, wasted effort, and frustration. You might think you’re being ignored, when in reality, the role was never open in the first place.
There are subtle signs to watch out for. If a job is constantly reposted but never filled, has vague descriptions, or the company doesn’t respond at all after multiple stages, it could be a ghost listing. Some companies even conduct interviews without any real hiring plan.
In today’s competitive job market, this trend makes things harder, especially for freshers and early professionals. Being aware is key. Not every opportunity online is genuine, and knowing how to spot the difference can save time, energy, and unnecessary disappointment.
