When I first expressed interest in going to India, I was consistently met with questions like, “are you sure it will be safe”? Rather than being prompted to be excited, people expected me to be anxious, afraid. While there is a certain anxiety in jumping into a different culture, I felt no more unsafe than I would in certain parts of the US.
