As 2025 concludes, India’s startup and tech ecosystem shifted from rapid expansion into measured execution and structural growth, charting several key milestones that reflect both resilience and transformation. One standout trend was a robust IPO wave, with 18 startups going public, unlocking liquidity for early investors and signaling that public markets are now a major exit route for Indian founders. At the same time, the total funding raised by startups remained around $11 billion, stabilising from previous years even as mega deals above $100 million became less frequent — a sign that capital allocation is becoming more selective and sustainable.

A striking chart from the year showed that deeptech funding climbed 13× over five years as investors and policymakers prioritised foundational technologies like AI, semiconductors, robotics and advanced manufacturing. Government initiatives such as focused funding programs and the IndiaAI Mission helped accelerate investment and infrastructure development in these areas.

Another defining shift came from consumption patterns: Gen Z accounted for about 43 % of India’s total consumer spending, totalling roughly $860 billion and influencing demand across ecommerce, food delivery, gaming, fashion and digital services. This demographic’s purchasing power is only expected to grow deeper in the coming decade.

The ecosystem’s breadth was also reflected in sheer scale: India crossed 200,000 DPIIT-recognised startups, and these firms cumulatively generated over 2 million jobs, underscoring how institutionalised entrepreneurship has become nationwide. Meanwhile, the active internet user base soared past 886 million, cementing digital services’ mass adoption and supporting mobile-led content, commerce and entertainment startups — trends captured vividly across the 14 charts that defined 2025 as a year of magnitude, resilience and strategic realignment for Indian tech.
